Types of Ceramic Ball

Activated Alumina Balls

Activated alumina balls can not only effectively improve the space utilization ratio of the reactors, but also they can protect the catalyst from being poisoned or being sintered to a certain degree, thus prolonging the service life of the catalyst.

Open-pored ceramic balls

Open-pored ceramic balls are new products developed by our company's research institute based on inert alumina ceramic balls. The holes are opened on the axis of the ball diameter, which makes the ceramic balls have certain mechanical strength, chemical stability and thermal stability.

Inert Alumina Ceramic Ball

Inert alumina ceramic ball is widely used in petroleum, chemical industry, chemical fertilizer, natural gas and environmental protection and other industries, as the catalyst in the reactor cover support material and tower filler.

Properties of Ceramic Balls

Hardness

Hardness is one of their most significant characteristics; ceramic balls are incredibly hard, often surpassing the hardness of steel.

01

Heat Resistance

Their heat resistance allows them to perform effectively in high-temperature environments that would typically degrade other materials.

02

Corrosion Resistance

Ceramic balls are also well-known for their corrosion resistance. This resistance to acids, alkalis, and salts makes them suitable for use in harsh and corrosive environments.

03

Low Density

Their low density further enhances their utility by reducing the overall weight of the machinery in which they are employed.

04

Electrical Insulation

Ceramic balls exhibit electrical insulation properties, making them indispensable for situations where electrical conductivity is undesirable, such as in electronic components.

Uses of Ceramic Balls

Reactor packing: Ceramic balls can also be used as packing for various reactors, optimizing fluid distribution and transfer, and improving reaction efficiency.

Comparison Between Ceramic Balls and Steel Balls

Hardness and Wear Resistance

Ceramic Balls: Typically harder than steel balls, leading to better wear resistance and less deformation under load.
Steel Balls: Softer compared to ceramic balls, which can lead to quicker wear and shape deformation under high loads and speeds.

Weight

Ceramic balls: Much lighter than steel balls, reducing bearing loads and improving efficiency in applications requiring high speeds.
Steel balls: Heavier, causing increased wear and energy consumption in high-speed applications.

Corrosion Resistance

Ceramic Balls: Highly resistant to corrosion and chemical attacks, making them suitable for harsh environments such as acidic or alkaline conditions.
Steel Balls: Prone to corrosion unless specially treated or made from stainless steel, which can increase costs.

Thermal Properties

Ceramic Balls: Excellent stability in high-temperature environments, maintaining their strength and hardness.
Steel Balls: Tend to lose hardness and dimensional stability at high temperatures.

Production Process of Ceramic Balls

The production process of ceramic balls involves several stages, including raw material preparation, forming, sintering, and finishing.

First, high-purity raw materials such as silicon nitride powder or zirconia powder are mixed with additives to enhance the characteristics of the ceramic balls.

Then, these materials are formed into the desired shape using various techniques such as injection molding, slip casting, or pressing.

After forming, the ceramic balls are sintered in a furnace at high temperature to achieve its full density and strength.

Finally, the balls are finished by grinding, polishing, and coating to meet the required quality standards.

Ceramic Ball Use Requirements

Compatible Environments

Ensure that the balls are used in environments that are chemically compatible to avoid reactions that could affect their properties.

Appropriate Equipment

Use equipment that is designed for ceramic ball applications to ensure optimal performance.

Avoid Direct Impact

Minimize direct impact or contact with hard surfaces to prevent potential damage.

Avoid Extreme Forces

Avoid subjecting the balls to excessive forces, pressure, or impacts that could lead to breakage.

Gentle Handling

Avoid dropping or mishandling the balls, as excessive force can lead to chipping or cracking.

Storage Condition

Store the balls in a dry and cool environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations.

Regular Inspection

Periodically inspect the balls for signs of wear, damage, or contamination, and replace them if necessary.
